War in Ukraine: Suspension of motorway charge sticker and exemption from heavy vehicle charge

(Last modification 09.03.2022)

Bern, 09.03.2022 - The Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS) is lifting the motorway charge sticker requirement for all vehicles transporting Ukrainian refugees or relief goods for Ukraine. In addition, transports of relief goods can be exempted from the performance-related heavy vehicle charge (HVC). The FOCBS thus makes use of the exemptions for humanitarian reasons envisaged in the respective legal bases.

Suspension of the motorway charge sticker requirement

Based on Article 4 paragraph 2 of the Federal Act on National Roads Charge, the FOCBS suspends the motorway charge sticker requirement for all vehicles transporting Ukrainian refugees or relief goods for Ukraine. The measure comes into force immediately and is valid until June 30, 2022. Further information can be found at www.vignette.ch.

Exemption from the performance-related heavy vehicle charge

Based on article 3 paragraph 2 of the Heavy Vehicle Charge Ordinance, the FOCBS can exempt transports of relief goods from the HVC. A request to this effect must be submitted to the FOCBS prior to the transport, either in writing or by e-mail to lsvaallgemein@bazg.admin.ch. Further information can be found at www.focbs.admin.ch or www.lsva.ch.
