New civil aviation agreement between Switzerland and Vietnam

Bern, 03.04.2018 - Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard and Transport Minister Nguyen Van The signed a new civil aviation agreement between Switzerland and Vietnam in Hanoi on 3 April 2018. The new agreement replaces the previous one concluded almost 40 years ago, and has been adapted to the latest international civil aviation requirements.

A civil aviation agreement between Switzerland and Vietnam was already concluded in 1979 and has been in force since 1981, but it no longer meets the present-day international requirements. In view of this a new, updated agreement has been concluded. Under the new agreement, civil aviation companies in both countries are able to carry out unlimited direct flights between Switzerland and Vietnam and can also enjoy greater flexibility with respect to code-share flights. In addition, the new agreement incorporates the option of providing intermodal transport services, and with respect to the applicable safety regulations it refers specifically to the latest status of internationally recognised procedures.

It is also in line with the intention of the Federal Council to liberalise bilateral civil aviation agreements concluded by Switzerland to the greatest possible extent.
